Brooke Moore

The centre for scholars, scribes and associated services, and also the location of the royal library, Brooke Moore boasts two resident magicians, and as a result some people are unsure about going to the district, while others flock to the spectacle of strange lights and coloured smoke that occasionally rise from the workshops of the Moore. Built on reclaimed land over Brooke Marsh, where bleachers once worked, the houses of Brooke Moore occasionally sink, and as a result they tend to lean on one another for support, and the roads are lumpy and often new bridges cross sunken walkways. Buildings cannot expand up, and so are instead broken into smaller and smaller pieces to accommodate more and more residents.

A like-minded company of alchemists has taken over a small warren of homes, opening the interconnecting halls back up to create a space suitable for their research, and while no one is keen to live next to men with a reputation for causing fires and explosions they have never the less become fixtures in the district. Their wealthy patron, Martin Uth-Cavish, means that they do not run the risk of being tried as a mercantile cabal, and so they have been able to work together largely unmolested unlike most such groups within Tohl.
