Cabal Of Blood

The Cabal of Blood was founded to facilitate Ralstaan nobles who were unwilling to participate in the right to challenge or the jousting bloodsport. They make themselves available to noblemen who they think might use their services and then ambush and murder the individual upon whom the contract is issued. They are considered dishonourable, and despite the fact that politically motivated killing isn’t the province of crown legislation the process is frowned upon and the agents of the crown actively pursue and execute known blood cabal operatives on a bounty basis, though their clients, if exposed, have no accountability.

Next to nothing is know about the cabal, how they find and train their operatives, whether they are kept in one place or move around or who leads them are all mysteries, though rumour has it that Tohl at least has a resident member. Their methods are diverse, from poisonings to several man ambushes to knives in the night, whatever it takes to get the job done, and their presence behind a death is usually only revealed when an incautious nobleman brags that it was he who was responsible for his foe's death. Even he can seldom shed any light on who the operative he hired was, only that after making inquiries, often for a long time, he was visited, usually in the night and in secret, by a hooded person who took his gold and told him the job would be done.

The cabal has spread to the south of the Imperatry Templarate of Haedrasia, where the Great Houses have embraced it wholeheartedly as a way of solving conflicts between them, since they are not allowed to openly attack one another. Here assassination is a service, like a tailor or a barber, and assassins who are accompanied by a lawful writ of execution issued by one of the Great Houses is allowed to legally execute members of another great house - though the assassin would be a fool to reveal himself to anyone before the deed was done. Good assassins live openly in Haedrasia, and are very respected - if rightly feared.
