Carrafield is dominated by the Royal University, the place where the heirs of every Ralstaan King must go to begin their service to the High King, and where the greatest minds in all of Rallstaa come together to share and develop their knowledge. The university campus and the dormitories that house the menial staff who maintain the buildings and ground make up the entire district, and generally only the students and faculty are welcome here, but some of the house gangers enjoy strutting around amongst the privileged youth, often picking fights and bullying lone students. For this reason many of the students have their own personal guards and violent confrontations between students and gangers, and between students whose kingdoms are at war with one another, have become very common despite dire punishments handed down by the Canons of the university. Second sons who are students at the university often abandon their studies and become recruits for house gang leadership instead of going on to their bachelorhood or congregation.

The Temple of the Radiant and Divine Rallah, where the High Kings of Ralstaa are crowned and married, and where the nobility of the Inner City pay service to their patron divhi sits on the university campus. While it is not the centre of Rallah's faith in The City it is certainly the most historic and sacred temple in Tohl, though its doors are generally not open to the general public thanks to the protective measures of the Acarian and Selaerin novices.
House Voernal, House Taliniere, House Cavish and House Faelener all have substantial holdings in Carrafield, but only the Taliniere and Faelener gangs have a genuine foothold, despite bitter competition. Both groups are entirely based here. The rest of Carrafield's population are the students doing their service, all heirs with bottomless purses, and the business that supply them with the accommodation, clothing, food, wine and other goods that they need. As a result Carrafield is a rich district in amongst a sea of poor ones.
Buildings in Carrafield are brick and shingle, usually over three levels, with well-built flyovers, balconies and even roof-gardens providing a way for a person to traverse a district while only having to touch the ground to cross the major streets of the area. White stone is used for cornices and door and window frames to add accents to buildings, and interiors are often clad in polished timber. Bleak Street and the Ravvh Loop for the western border of the district, Knights Street and Scriptory Street for the north, Dawning Street marks the east boundary between Carrafield and Templeton and Scribes Street and Templars March cut Carrafield cleanly in three. The streets are cobbled with channels for sewerage and regularly employed paupers brought from poorer districts to clean the streets. Alleys and side streets however are as chaotic as elsewhere, with spiral stairs, skywalks and steep warrens of alleys between towering city blocks, or through arches and tiny courtyards all form a patchwork of unmapped thoroughfares.
