Divination Skill
The search for knowledge is predicated upon the idea that there is evidence within the world that one thing or another is true. The discipline of the Divination Skill states that signs within the universe can be used to predict present past or future events otherwise unknown to the diviner, and that certain spiritual energies can be used to detect the presence and strength of other spiritual energies in close proximity to one another. Divination is predicated upon the idea that the great events of the universe are all powered by spiritual energies, be they the will of the Divh or of the spirits of the world, or the souls of mortals, and that these energies have physical observable effects upon certain other spiritually charged objects or forces, or that the observation of the behaviour of either living or inanimate spiritual conductors can be used to determine the flow, strength and nature of these energies.

Divine the Past and Present

The future is a strange thing, and knowledge of it has the potential to completely change it, as do forces outside of those that govern the universe. As a result the past and to a lesser extent the present are more concrete, they have occurred or are occurring, and there are fewer variables and less nuance to understanding a reading of what is not variable or morphable. As a result the simplest thing a diviner can do is consult his device of divination regarding things that have happened or are happening.
Advantage:

Divine the Truth

Many courts of law turn to diviners, or to 'trials' to prove guilt or innocence rather than leaving such things in the hands of mortal adjudicators. Merchants often want to know when they are being conned or tricked, and many a king wants to gauge the loyalty of his followers. Because lie and truth are such immediate, and black and white energies they are simple enough for even the most simplistically trained diviner to attempt to scry. However the lower his skill the more seldom he knows whether or not the results of his predictions are a genuine reading, or a botched attempt.

Divine the Future

More complex and changeable than the past or present, the future is not set in stone, not all of the dies are cast and the very act of divination is a variable that can change the future. As a result this can be more confusing and complex and requires a greater level of training to attempt. A major part of the skill of the diviner is to ensure the validity of his reading by never revealing too much, and no diviner with any sense would ever try to divine much further than the immediate future regarding himself, for to do so is to completely invalidate the reading merely by performing it.

Divine Intent

Requiring a great deal of skill, a truly great diviner can actually attempt to accurately read the motives and general character of another individual, with regard to themselves or any other individual who can enact some presence (a lock of hair or distinctive personal item are usually sufficient, but carry a penalty) with an impressive level of specific detail. A low level diviner might be able to tell whether or not an individual means him ill, but an Expert level diviner can consult his method to divine what manner of harm the individual means him, when, and often for what reason.

Foresee

Looking for, interpreting and in many cases catalyzing signs that point to the most likely future are one thing, but actually being visited with a vision - no matter how cryptic or distorted - of something past, present or future is a rare thing indeed. Rarer still when the vision is conjured, not by some gift from a divh, but by the skill of a simple mortal diviner. Once a character has Perfect Divination he is able to attempt to enter a trance and actually generate a vision, a dream-like mental image, of what is past, present or future. He does not do this by sending out his soul, or any other magical artifice, simply by opening his 'third eye' to the right energies inherent to the universe. Of course these images are not always literal, the mind distorts and interprets the information it is receiving to represent it as a vision. Generally images from the past are cement, clearer, more literal, images from the present are less clear, some elements are unnatural or require interpretation, and images from the future are almost entirely dream-like and expressionist, but a skilled diviner can usually glean what knowledge he needs, even from these.
