Gateside houses the largest market in all of Tohl, and also the city watch's central garrison and the offices of the Lord Provost Agniel Ur-Laren. Gateside saw a lot of the largest clashes of the bandit wars, but has recovered quickly. Trade is what keeps Gateside vital, and there are few shops here because stalls of goods are cheaper to run and more patronized. Food is the major commodity here. Food is one of the most expensive and in-demand things in a city the size of Tohl, and is always in demand, with starvation common in the lower classes, and Gateside's major trade is in food. All caravans and shipments pass through Gateside and most stop here to on sell their goods to richer markets in the Inner City, but some make the trek through Gateside to Broadstreet. The folk of Gateside are nearly all low level merchants operating various stalls one various different market days, sometimes operating three or four different stalls on a day on day off basis. They are expert hagglers, and the sound of heated bargaining echoes through the district from dawn until dusk. Priests also often gather here to preach to the throngs of people, but largely they are ignored, and the city watch keep a very careful eye indeed on anyone who can draw a crowd. More often than not the citizens militia take care of such individuals before the watch need to.
