Political Geography

The rugged northern land of Illthendor was never quite as liberal or advanced as its southern neighbours. The folk of Illthendor were once ruled by a body of warriors who held the southern border against the Blasted Land, and guarded against the creatures that wandered from that terrible place, and the evil spirits that dwelt beyond. They ranged the eastern borders of Maldare, and even kept contingents in Helvar, and were ruled over by a handful of families groomed to command. When one family held Illthendor, the others were given command along other borders. Illthendor kept a long line of small fortresses guarding signal towers all along the west of the Blasted Land, where their marksmen perfected the longbow that now keeps Hardt free. For this reason many blame Illthendor for not knowing how many easterners had slipped into Helvar before they marched on Maldare.

Now Illthendor remains in a state of conquest. The border forts have all fallen, and house large Cult garrisons, but many of the scattered northern townships have yet to even see Cult presence, and many have fled into the generous wilderness, where they use their knowledge of the land to live in hiding. Many of Illthendor's warriors led away their own little bands of resistance, some made it to Hardt, and others live in the woods, ready to flee at a moment's notice. Still, where the boot of the Cult has fallen the leaders of the realm have been supplanted, and Taur'Gorat, Illthendor's new Sanak, is tireless in his determination to make a name for himself at Illthendor's expense, and outshine Bruticai and Garothros in the Dead Eye's estimation.

Taur’Gorat, Sanak of Illthendor
The almighty Sanak of Illthendor is Taur’Gorat, and despite being the lesser of his esteemed brethren, Taur’Gorat is still a force to be reckoned with. Taur’Gorat has only recently come into his title after his predecessor; Sanak Vachatiks, was assassinated by a resistance cell some eight months ago.
