Kell

Kell is a country boy, and everyone who looks at him knows it instantly. Tall, lanky, and a little stupid, he is never the less a good natured lad, driven to the life of a petty criminal by circumstance more than choice. Kell has few desires, beyond living a comfortable life, and his uncomplicated honesty and unambitious outlook make him both pitiable and lovable depending on how one looks at him.

Description

Kell is an enormous, lanky youth with ropey muscles and not an ounce of fat on his whole frame. Bony and ungainly Kell is still surprisingly quick and being mostly unremarkable in all other respects the speed at which he can react often comes as a surprise to even those familiar with him. Kell has an unremarkable, ill-fitting sort of appearance, like he was cobbled together from two men of vastly different size. His nose is flat and broad, his lips thin, eyes large and round, his ears are immense and stick out from his head and he has a smattering of irregular freckles all over. Even his hair, though rather long and unkempt, is extremely fine and dead straight, doing nothing to aid in concealing his ears.

Personality

A quiet, simple lad, Kell tends to speak as little as possible because when he does open his mouth he feels self conscious and yokelish. He is a practical lad, but certainly not clever, but still bright enough to know his limits, even the simplest of problems will usually leave him totally baffled.

History

Born in a village in Wynd too small to have a name, and too remote to know it needed one Kell always thought he was destined to herd his father’s Garks and make his living in the forested hills and moist dells of his home, however when his village was incorporated by a local kingdom most of Kell’s family were so terrified that the soldiers were disguised trols that they fled into the wilderness. After a few days Kell became lost and was forced to live wandering unfamiliar wilds with only a couple of Gark he managed to trap for company and food. Eventually he stumbled on a highway and a passing caravan were good enough to take him on as labor for board and passage. He found his way rather quickly to Tohl, and so amazed by the majesty of the city, but largely because no one told him he needed to pay to leave, he stayed. Sadly there are few Gark herds in The City, and he was forced to turn his hand to a plethora of new professions, that eventually led to cutting purses.

Associations

Kell left his family months away in Wynd, and has lost all contact with them, though he thinks about his parents and three elder brothers every day, whether or not they survived, and if they returned home or not. Band and Avin and Bassa have formed his new family, and the giant Adrius has become Kell's idol, he comes close to worshiping the big man, not only for his physical prowess but because he has a little culture and hints at a world even bigger than that Kell has traveled. The Ravvh contingent of the watch know Kell, and have cautioned him a number of times, and though he's deceptively fast and agile for his lanky frame they have never considered the lad dangerous enough to do much more than chase. Still, when he's sighted, which he is easily, he is at the very least searched. Other cutpurses of Ravvh tend to think of Kell as more of a decoy than competition, and so he is generally heartily welcomed amongst the criminal elements of the district.
