Rallah's Keep

The enormous keep that sits near the center of The City is called simply Rallah's Keep, after it's most famous inhabitant. From here various lines have ruled Bradenthyr, and even all Ralstaa, for millenia and even today the High King of Ralstaa both makes his home and holds court within these sacred walls. As befits the former home of an earthly divhi, the keep is enormous and magnificent. Though it is by no means the equal of the Eternal Palace, Rallah's Keep is never the less an imposing defense indeed. Built around fourteen baileys ascending to the top of a gentle rise that overlooks most of the city, surrounded by a canal moat diverted from the silver river, its heavy red-brick walls and battlements mount higher and higher above one another as the baileys ascend, and the center of the keep is a series of beautiful willowy towers reaching up into the sky and joined by a series of covered bridges and walkways. The interior of the keep is light and airy thanks to a carefully built series of windows, not so wide as to give an attacker advantage, but carefully crafted enough to maximize the light. The roofs of the keep, like the rest of the inner city, are covered with a blessed star-metal that gives the city it's name. Consecrated by Rallah this substance contains the trapped light of the moons, and radiates with a rainbow-hued inner light that is especially clear at night hovering over the inner city as a shimmering radiant cloud of shifting colours. The pall of smog that constantly wreaths the city twists and distorts these colours at a distance, making them twist and distort.

Within the keep the fearsome Palisade Knights keep unflinching watch in their enormous suits of armour, and the Lloric defend the royal line. The keep has never fallen, and the last time an army came against it during the bandit wars the attack was broken in a matter of hours. The political situation of the keep is an odd one. Rallah's Keep and the city walls are maintained by the High King, and are a part of his domain, defended by his soldiers, but the rest of the city is the dominion of the Lord Mayor, who serves to nobles who control the City. Thus the soldiers who man the walls have no authority in the city and the city watch have no authority over the keep or walls. They are two distinct domains woven around one another.

Rallah's keep has supplies to last through decades of siege, as well as hundreds of apartments to house the visiting summer courts of the Lleweith Kings, and those farther flung who wish to make their presence known at the court of the High King. An underground spring that feeds the silver river is somewhere in the chambers and vaults beneath the keep, as are the vaults of Viran Uth-Rallis. Treasures collected over an empire's conquest. Even Carin Highseat Uth-Rallis himself isn't familiar with every chamber of his magnificent home.
