Rava Damaskar

The Bahruic diviner-priest Rava of the house of Damaskar is the current head of House Damaskar, one of the foremost sangoma houses of the Goblynfells. A master of the Bahruic Secrets and a skilled seer of things past present and future, as well as the foremost astrologer of this age of his house, Rava is much envied and respected amongst his peers, and the services of his house are in great demand and command a high price.

Description

Rava is of untellable age, despite his four and some decades. He stands shorter than most goblyns, though he is slim rather than stout and his limbs and body are very much in proportion to his height. Slight and quick, Rava is a scholar and a priest and has never done a day's physical labour in his life, so his body has shallow layer of doughy weight, though beneath his robes one would not know it. Rava's skin is of a deep forest green showing noble blood amongst his kin, and his features are sharp and clean. His black eyes glitter with intelligence, and he wears his head shaved with a single topknot, and a fine waxed moustache punctuating his hawk-like nose. Rava speaks quickly, his tongue is of great agility, and he is extremely animated and energetic. He generally attires himself in a white robe and hood with a dark cloak and a decorative silk belt, and is generally burdened with all manner of astrological apparatus and minor relics.

Personality

Those speaking to Rava are immediately aware of his perceptive, and agile mind, because these traits carry directly to the tongue. He is a man of great intelligence and prolific energy for his calling. Stern in the way that the master of a House must be, he is a fine administrator, but his real strength is in his unerring devotion to his craft, and his exceptional skill in it. Like all goblyns he is practical, to an extent that other races would consider him cruel, but there is no malice in his seemingly callous behaviour, merely unemotional pragmatism. The other trait common to his countrymen, ambition, has been assayed by his lofty rank, and given him more time and energy to focus upon the advancement of his craft. Because he can become little more powerful in the Fells Rava is one of the more personable noble-blooded Fellers one is likely to meet, but this does not mean that his manners and trustworthiness are a sign that he will let himself be manipulated or taken advantage of, merely that he is a reasonable and sensible man.

History

Born into the House of Damaskar, it seemed Rava's destiny to take the leadership of that illustrious house, and indeed the portents showed this at his birth. As a result he spent his life being groomed for the lofty office he would one day occupy, and this bred in him a calm confidence to replace the treachery and ambition that occupied the hearts of most of his peers. An excellent student, he excelled at the studies his masters set before him, and spent many hours in meditative communion with Bahru seeking guidance and wisdom from the lofty divh. When he was experienced enough and his old master Sambala saw fit, he took the post of head of the House of Damaskar, only a few years ago, and made sweeping changes to the house, cutting the fat, exiling many of the less talented elder sangoma. This has made the House of Damaskar even mightier than it once was, but has also made Rava many powerful enemies.

Associations

Rava's family are long since dead, and he has no surviving siblings. He has neither taken a partner nor sought a lover, and so his only close associates come from those in the house who serve as his aides. Maruk and Sadrash, the elders who act as his advisers spend hours of the day in his company, and these three likely consider themselves friends, or at least close allies. Of course every member of the House of Damaskar and those warlords to whom he has sold the house's services all count amongst his allies, and the Warlord Hukam Sahib who hosts the Dome of the Inconstant Heavens prizes Rava's friendship and loyalty above all others. However in purging many members of the house Rava has also made many bitter enemies - thankfully they are without the resources or resourcefulness to strike against him. Once his closest friend, and a peer of a similar generation, Ryheem's exile was potentially the most volatile, but to the surprise of many - even Rava - Ryheem left with little complaint, as if he would have done the same in Rava's place.
