Sorâne
Bordered on three sides by imposing mountain ranges, and with its open border leading into the poison wood of Hyd, Sorâne (SORE-ayn) finds itself unenviably cut off from the world. And though it was not always so, only the eldest of the Goblynkin of Sorâne now recall a time when trade and travellers from the outside world were anything but unknown to the inner lands of their realm. Now imposing fortresses hold both the rugged passes into the Battlewaite, and the shores of Pearlwater Lake against intrusion by the foes that beset them on all sides. And only the rudest trails lead north into Kel Saratose, or south into the mountains around Sudar.

Geography

Physical Geography

Nestled in a valley formed between the Shoulders of the Word and the Breshan Mountains, around the shores of the vast Pearlwater Lake, Sorâne is one of the most isolated realms in all of Allornus. Heavily wooded by the dense alpine woods reaching out of the Mhul Pont, and in mountain-cast shadow for much of the day, Sorûne is a land of dappled shade, bleak shale slopes, and dark crevasses. The goblyns of Sorâne have made little impact on the land around them, it has defiantly resisted civilization, with loose rocky ground toppling buildings, rockfalls levelling fortresses, roads ripped apart by the roots of trees and tiny villages found empty, with no sign of their denizens' fates. Something wild lurks in Sorâne, shaping the land's very character into a brooding, sinister presence.

Political Geography

Because the land here stands so defiantly in the face of all attempts at civilization, the city of Sorûne and the northern shores of Pearlwater Lake house the vast majority of the small realm's civilization. Org bands throughout the mountains might be considered natives, but theirs is a savage, tribal culture, and so they seldom put down roots for more than a season, and only come together when they fight with one another over territory or females. The Satrap of Sorûne lays claim to rulership of the whole land, though his influence scarcely extends more than a day's ride from the gates of his citadel.
